Self-cleaning filtration is used in the upgrade project of the turbid circulating water filtration system of a steel plant in Southeast Asia.

2026-06-09
Project Background
In the continuous casting workshop of a large steel enterprise in Southeast Asia, a turbid ring water cooling system is used. The water source contains a large amount of iron oxide scale, suspended particles, and a small amount of oil contamination. The original filter used a common stainless steel filter screen. Due to the high content of impurities and the stickiness, the filter screen would become severely clogged every three to five days, resulting in poor water flow from the nozzles, affecting the uniformity of steel billet cooling and increasing the defective rate. At the same time, frequent manual cleaning of the filter increased equipment downtime and maintenance costs.
Solution
After technical communication, we recommended the JYSCF-DN250-DN100 type brush-type self-cleaning filter. And based on the characteristics of the steel industry, the following customization was carried out:

Filtering precision selection Considering the characteristics of iron oxide scale particles, a 80-micron wedge-shaped filter screen has been set. This design can effectively intercept impurities while avoiding excessive fineness that may lead to frequent cleaning.
Cleaning structure optimization Utilizing nylon bristle material, combined with a deceleration motor for rotation, it can easily remove the sticky iron mud adhering to the surface of the wedge-shaped net, avoiding the wear of the filter net caused by metal brushes.
Waste discharge system configuration The discharge outlet uses a DN40 electric ball valve (made of 316 material), which is convenient for on-site inspection to confirm the discharge effect.
The inlet and outlet diameters of the equipment are DN100, the cylinder diameter is 273mm, the design pressure is 10 bars, and the flow rate of the feed pump at the customer's site is approximately 30 cubic meters per hour, which is fully compatible with the parameters of the filter. The stainless steel cabinet is suitable for the humid and dusty environment of the steel factory.
Implementation effect
Since the equipment was put into operation, it has been running for more than one year. The operational data provided by the customer indicates:
Nozzle Blockage: Frequency dropped from 3 times/month to once every 2 months.
Quality Improvement: Surface crack defect rate decreased by approximately 15%.
Maintenance Cost: Reduced from twice a week to a monthly routine inspection.
Stable Operation: Zero unplanned downtime due to equipment faults.
"This self-cleaning filter is highly suitable for our turbid circulating water conditions. The nylon brush combined with the wedge-shaped net design has achieved better cleaning results for the sticky iron sludge than expected. What makes us most satisfied is the high level of automation. Once the parameters are set, there is no need to worry at all. When the pressure difference increases, it will automatically clean and discharge."
