How a Southeast Asian chemical company solved the problem of high-flow filtration with multi-bag filters
In the field of industrial fluid processing, the filtration stage is often a critical node that determines the stability of the entire production line. Especially for processes involving high flow rates and high impurity content such as those in the chemical, coating, and ink industries, if the filtration equipment experiences blockages, cross-leaks, or frequent bag changes, it can lead to issues ranging from minor impacts on product quality to complete line shutdowns, resulting in significant economic losses.
This article shares a real application case from a chemical company in Southeast Asia. It focuses on describing the filtration problems encountered by the client and the final solution, hoping to provide reference for industry users facing similar conditions.
The company is located in Southeast Asia and is engaged in the blending and production of industrial solvents, resins, and coatings. In its production process, there is a key filtration step that requires impurity interception of high-viscosity and high-solid-content mixed liquids to ensure the fineness and purity of subsequent filling products.
The client previously used a single-bag filtration device. As production capacity expanded, the original equipment gradually revealed several problems:
First, insufficient filtration capacity. The effective filtration area of the single-bag structure is limited, and under high-flow transmission, the pressure drop rises rapidly, resulting in a decline in the efficiency of the front-end pump, affecting the overall production rhythm.
Second, excessive bag change frequency. Due to the high impurity content of the material, the single-bag's pollutant-capturing capacity is limited. Operators need to stop the machine multiple times per shift to replace the filter bags, which not only increases labor intensity but also directly compresses the effective production time.
Third, insufficient sealing reliability. Under high-pressure conditions, the filter bag's compression structure of the original equipment becomes loose, and some materials bypass through the bypass path, resulting in occasional non-compliance with fine particle standards in downstream products, increasing quality risks.
Fourth, difficult cleaning and maintenance. The inner wall of the equipment is not smooth, and residual materials are not easy to clean thoroughly. There is a risk of cross-contamination when changing product varieties.
Based on the actual process conditions of the client, we recommended and customized a mirror stainless steel multi-bag filter for them. This equipment was designed around the core requirements of high flow rate, high precision, and easy maintenance.

In terms of material, the equipment is made of SS316L stainless steel, with both the inner and outer surfaces polished to a mirror finish. This design not only significantly enhances corrosion resistance, enabling it to withstand long-term contact with various solvents and chemical media, but also reduces material residue on the inner wall, making cleaning more thorough and quick, and reducing the risk of cross-contamination during product variety changes.
In terms of structure, the equipment adopts a multi-bag parallel design, significantly increasing the effective filtration area compared to the original single-bag equipment. Under the same flow rate, the filtration flow rate is lower, the pressure drop is smaller, and the front-end pump operation is more stable, resulting in a significant improvement in production rhythm. Additionally, the multi-bag structure provides a larger pollutant-capturing capacity, with the bag change cycle being extended from the original multiple times per shift to once per shift or even longer, significantly reducing the maintenance burden on operators.
In terms of sealing and compression, the top of the equipment is equipped with a handwheel rocker quick-opening system, combined with an internal precise spring compression device. When closing, the spring continuously applies uniform pressure to the filter bag, ensuring that the edge of the filter bag is tightly adhered to the support seat, fundamentally eliminating cross-leakage. The client reported that since the equipment was replaced, the fine particle qualification rate of downstream products has significantly improved, and quality stability has been effectively guaranteed.
In terms of operational convenience, the quick-opening rocker structure makes the top cover easy to open without the need for special tools, and it can be replaced by a single person within a short period of time. The bottom is equipped with an emission valve, which facilitates residual liquid discharge and online cleaning, further shortening the maintenance downtime.
After the equipment has been in use for some time, the customers have given a positive evaluation of the overall operation effect. This is mainly reflected in the following aspects:
Production efficiency has improved. The low resistance and high flow characteristics brought by the multi-bag parallel structure have eliminated the bottleneck of the filtration process in the production line, and the overall production capacity has been released.
Maintenance costs have decreased. The frequency of bag replacement has reduced, the consumption of filter bags has decreased, and the time for manual maintenance has been significantly shortened. The overall operating cost has decreased significantly.
Product quality is stable. The spring compression and zero-side leakage design ensures the consistency of filtration accuracy, and the problem of fluctuation in the fineness of downstream products has been solved, resulting in a decrease in customer complaint rates.
The equipment lifespan has been extended. The mirror-finish stainless steel material is corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant, and the equipment performs stably under continuous operation conditions. The expected service life is much longer than the original equipment.
This case demonstrates that in industrial fluid filtration, equipment selection should not only consider the initial purchase cost, but also comprehensively consider flow matching, sealing reliability, maintenance convenience, and long-term operational stability. For high-flow and high-impurity content conditions, multi-bag filters have obvious comprehensive advantages compared to single-bag equipment. The combination of mirror-finish stainless steel material and precise spring compression structure further enhances the durability and filtration accuracy of the equipment, helping users maintain stable output in continuous production.
